Jathiswaram

Dance 2

Dancing to rhythmic patterns and sequences

A Jathiswaram is a dance presentation in Bharatanatyam that combines rhythmic patterns with intricate sequences and repetitive musical notes. It is a purely nritta composition - a dance without expression and which is performed on swarams or notes as opposed to sahityam which are lyrics. Jathiswarams are usually intensely rhythmic and showcases the dancers ability in adapting to rhythmic variations in the music.

The Jathiswaram that Arya is dancing to is the Mohana Jathiswaram in Mohana Raga and set to Aadi talam.
