Adidano Ranga

Dance 6

A composition on Krishna's childhood in Kannada Language

This beautiful Padam tells us another story from Krishna's childhood. In this story, Krishna is not just a naughty butter thief and a tricky prankster - we see him as a fierce protector, fighting off the vicious snake demon Kaliya who was poisoning the river Yamuna and destroying Krishan's home Vrindavan.

As Krishna was dancing on Kaliya and subduing him, Brahma was singing his praise. The celestial dancers Rambha and Urvashi were dancing, Narada was playing his tamburu and Nandi was playing the drums in celebration of this marvel.

As the celestial beings praised Krishna, the evil ones were scattered in all the four directions. The song ends with Yashoda gaining awareness that her little boy is the Lord himself.

Adidano Ranga is a composition by Purandara Daasar, who was renowned for composing in Kannada, another major South Indian language. The song is composed in Arabhi Raga and set in Aadi talam.
